EEE 152 - Basic Electronics Repair (10 Days)

This electronics course is designed to expose participants to the handling and troubleshooting of electronic equipment.

Participants will work with a wide range of complex analogue circuits and components, diagnose faults and learn to use advanced electronic test equipment.

Course Objectives

  • Know the importance of safety precautions when dealing with AC and DC electronic circuits.
  • Use an analog/digital multimeter to measure voltage, current, resistance and continuity for troubleshooting.
  • Differentiate between AC and DC circuits.
  • Remove and solder electronic components from and onto PCB boards.
  • Understand how to protect PCB boards from moisture, water and vibration.
  • Use the right chemical spray to clean PCBs.
  • Understand how electronic components work with the help of diagrammatic explanations.
  • Calculate the code value of resistors, potentiometers and capacitors.
  • Identify and test most basic electronic components so troubleshooting work can be performed on electronic equipment.
  • Read semiconductor substitution manuals and find suitable replacement parts using search engines.
  • Understand semiconductor part numbers and datasheet specifications.
